Can you cook cupcakes without a pan?

Published by admin under Cooking Recipes

I dont have a cupcake/muffin pan. My mother in law said she cooks her cupcakes with just pouring the mix in the foil linners and laying those on a pan. Does this work? Can I actually cook cupcakes with out using a pan?

Yes, technichally, you could use the FOIL, not paper, liners on a cookie sheet, but do you already have foil liners on hand? You can buy a cupcake pan almost as cheap, at Wal-Mart. If you have to go out to buy liners, just buy a pan.

For yourself another hazard is not that much protection on the method your mother in law does but bet it.
For the bottom you can see for yourself another hazard is no support for the bottom you can try it so.

The pan prevents the batter from expanding sideways, and forces it to rise upwards. This creates the rounded top even though you only fill the cup to the top. Without a pan, I would be worried that the expanding batter would push outwards and bend the paper. This would lead to a wider, shorter cupcake than is traditional unless the cupcake wrappers were very sturdy. What would it mean for texture? Probably very little? For taste? Nothing. For enjoyment? Probably very little.

Baking should be about experimentation sometimes too.

    Good luck.

Yes, foil cupcake liners can be used without a pan.

You could also use silicone cupcake liners, which reusable and also don’t require a pan:
